Safe Shelter and Stability – Accessing Housing Assistance in Philadelphia

Updated: Sep 2

At H.E.L.P. INC., we often meet families who are in need of assistance searching for or keeping safe housing. Fortunately, Philadelphia offers several resources that can provide immediate support and long-term solutions.

ree

City Housing Resources Include:

  • Philadelphia Office of Homeless Services (OHS): Provides emergency shelter, housing placement, and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call the 24-hour Homeless Outreach Hotline at 215-232-1984.

  • Emergency Rental Assistance: This program helps renters who are behind on rent or at risk of eviction. It can cover rent and utilities and is designed to keep families safely housed.

  • PHA (Philadelphia Housing Authority): Offers affordable housing programs and Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) to low-income individuals and families.

How to Get Help:

You can begin the process online or by visiting a local community resource center. Our team at H.E.L.P. INC. can also guide you through the steps, including gathering necessary documentation and connecting you to the right agency.

We believe that housing is a human right. If you're worried about where you'll sleep tonight or how to keep your family safe, know that help is available—and you are not alone.
